What is a Secondary Suite?

A secondary suite is a self contained residential unit with a private kitchen, bathroom, sleeping and living area which is accessory to a primary dwelling on the property. Secondary suites are most commonly found in the basement of an existing house but may also be built as a separate structure in the backyard of a property, also called an ADU (additional dwelling unit), or garden suite, given the property is large enough to accommodate this option.
